The Loyola Alumni Theatre is pleased to announce that the inaugural stage production of this new acting company in Towson will be “Art” by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton. Loyola Alumni Theatre is a semi-professional acting company in residence at Loyola Blakefield and made up completely of Loyola alumnus. The mission of this company is to produce classic, modern, and new plays throughout the year to entertain and educate multi-generational audiences in the greater Towson area.

“Art” is a comedy that questions the nature of friendships and art. Friends gather to see the newest purchase of art collector Serge: A white canvas with white lines. Relationships fracture as the discussion turns from the abstract to the insulting. Starring as art snob Serge is Los Angeles actor Bernd Linhart ’92. Serge’s unsophisticated friends are played by local and New York actor Lance Baldwin ’87 and Joe Miller ’08, who is making his professional debut. Originally produced in the French language by the Comédie des Champs-Ėlysées in Paris in 1994, an English language production moved to London’s West End in 1996. In 1998, “Art” was produced on Broadway, where it won the Tony Award for Best Play.

“Art” will be presented on the Creaghan Library Stage of Wheeler Hall on the Loyola Blakefield Campus, 500 Chestnut Avenue, Towson, Md. 21204.   Performance dates are Friday and Saturday evenings, June 17, 18, 24, 25, and July 8, 9, 15, and 16 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $25.00 and include Hors D’oeuvres provided by An Poitin Stil Irish Pub and Restaurant, and a Cash Bar.
