Understanding Occupancy and Use                    Session 715

Correct occupancy classification is the foundation for applying the building code correctly. This course explores occupancy groups, mixed occupancies, accessory occupancies, incidental uses, and changes of occupancy using practical examples and real-world scenarios. Participants will strengthen their ability to classify buildings accurately and understand how occupancy affects code requirements throughout a project.

Applying the code

Learn a practical approach to applying the building code by identifying applicable requirements, navigating code provisions, and using real-world scenarios to make consistent code decisions.

Understanding Code Language

Learn how to interpret the language of the building code by understanding key terms, mandatory versus permissive language, exceptions, and how code provisions work together.

Instructor:           Marcia Holiday         Marcia is a City of Saint Paul Building Inspector and founder of Code Foundations MN. With over a decade of experience in residential construction and code administration, she is passionate about helping building professionals confidently navigate and apply the building code.
