IRC Chpt 3 – Building Planning Session                  741

Building Planning sets up a compilation of code requirements that are specific to the building planning sector of the design and construction process. The provisions address a wide variety of issues important to designing a building that is both safe and usable. Without a broad workable knowledge of chapter 3 it will be impossible to plan review one- & two-family dwelling units and townhomes. This seminar is applicable to all aspects of the design, construction, and regulatory community, including contractors and design professionals.

Instructor:           Russel Thornburg                 With over 31 years of experience, Russell Thornburg brings to the classroom firsthand knowledge of many aspects of the building industry from the basics of home ownership, to general contracting, to field inspection and plans examiner. For more than twenty years he was self-employed as a licensed general contractor, and has over 17 years of experience working for municipalities in the state of Minnesota and Kansas. During this time, he began teaching Building Inspection Technology programs for Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, as well as Continuing Education Seminars from around the country and ICC chapters. After a short stint serving as Program Manager for Johnson County Contractor Licensing of KS he has returned to Texas and now writes and develops code seminars and presents these programs for various organizations, including municipalities, institutes, ICC chapters, Home Builders Associations, and industries throughout the United States. Russell is a member of ICC, attended many Code Development Hearings, served as one of the original committee members for ICC Preferred Provider, and is a current ICC Preferred Provider.
