J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio | Bach in the City
Bach in the City will celebrate the new year with a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s beloved Christmas Oratorio, BWV 248, at the Church of St. Vincent de Paul on Friday, January 8, 2027. With festive trumpets and resounding timpani heralding the birth of the Christ child, to moving and contemplative chorales for the acclaimed Bach in the City chorus, Bach’s sacred masterpiece depicts the familiar Christmas story in dramatic fashion. Our performance is distinguished by a roster of world-class soloists and orchestra of early music specialists playing original 18th century instruments—or faithful modern replicas—in a historically informed style, bringing this 293-year-old work to life in vivid detail for modern day audiences.
Soloists include Hannah DePreist, soprano; Ryan Belongie, alto; Gene Stenger, tenor; Paul Max Tipton, bass; with the Bach In the City Chorus, Period Instrument Orchestra, and conducted by music director Richard Webster.
