FirstSteps, CPYB Student Choreographic Workshop further enriches the training of Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet dancers beyond the traditional student/performer boundaries. Students develop an understanding of the choreographic creative process while working with dancers in a leadership role.
CPYB students submit a proposal for the creation of a new work. Proposals detailed musical selection and a description of the type of work, as well as a statement of why FirstSteps would be valuable to their overall experience as a dancer at CPYB.
Through the CPYB FirstSteps choreographic initiative, students develop an understanding of how artistic directors and choreographers view dancers, as well as learn more about their expectations. In the creation of dynamic new works, the students learn how to consider things from different points of view and in ways that will help them no matter what they go on to do in life.
