Mary Poppins is set to fly over the rooftops of Central Texas and into Leander High School from January 23rd to January 26th!

The family musical, based on the novels of P.L. Travers and the Academy Award-winning Walt Disney film, features the memorable songs “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Let’s Go Fly a Kite,” “Feed the Birds,” “Chim-Chim-Cher-ee,” “Step in Time,” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” all written by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman.

The show also features a host of new songs by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe and a scrípt by Julian Fellowes, creator and writer of Downton Abbey. The original London production, produced by Disney and Cameron Mackintosh, won two Olivier Awards and ran for over 1,000 performances, while the subsequent Broadway production ran for more than six years. Since then, Mary Poppins has played on six continents in thirteen languages and delighted over 11 million people with its magical story, classic songs, wonderous illusions, and dazzling dance numbers.

Mary is the practically perfect nanny who, along with her charming friend Bert, helps young Jane and Michael Banks learn to take their medicine with a spoonful of sugar, find the silver lining in every situation, and realize that sometimes we should use the winds of change to go fly a kite.

Leander High School’s production will feature a cast of over 50 students, including Greater Austin High School Musical Theatre Award nominees Sophie Montani as Mary Poppins and Jordan Williams as Bert. And, yes, Mary will soar over the stage thanks to the incredible effects provided by flying experts ZFX.
