Tournament Rules

1. SCENARIOS

A selection of scenarios will be played, generally as described in the BA rulebook, on table with terrain that has been pre-set by the organisers: Possibly from Demolition, Top Secret, Envelopment, Point Defence, Hold Until Relieved, Maximum Attrition. The order will be unknown.

The intention for this tournament is that everyone gains from it.  Some of the boards may have extreme terrain, external factors etc.  If your thing is super hard/cheesy armies crushing "casuals" you may find this tournament unsuitable. If you wish a fun weekend with potential friends, whilst being challenged - Welcome.

2. FORCES

Players must use a 1000 (max) requisition points force.

  • The force must consist of a maximum of two Reinforced Platoons from one list.
  • The platoons in the force must be selected using the army list section of any of the army supplement books.
  • The platoon/s must be formed either according to the generic reinforced platoon selector (see page 124 of the BA rulebook) or one of the theatre selectors from the chosen supplement book.

In addition, an additional separate 200 point force must be designed (not using models from the 1000 point force) of only 1 platoon.  You may increase this to 220 points (for flexibility), but every point over 200 will lower your main force by half that amount.  Thus if you take the full 220 your total main force points will only be 990.

It would be helpful if people also bring some objective markers and a truck or similar.

3. ARMY LIST

The players must provide two copies of the army list they are going to use for the duration of the entire tournament. They must leave a copy of their list with the referee before the start of the tournament. The force list is public and your opponent can always look at it and ask you questions about your force.

4. GAME TIME

After 2.75 hours of gameplay, the players must finish the current turn, and then the game ends automatically.  I have upped the time (with less games) as in the past most people wished to complete their game and felt rushed.

5. MATCH-UPS

The match-ups of Game 1 will be random, though from different clubs if possible. In the following games players will be matched using Tournament Points (TP) and my fiddle factor, as explained below.

6. TOURNAMENT POINTS (TP)

Victory is calculated as described in the Scenarios being played and Tournament points are awarded for victories, defeats and draws.  A total victory is when all enemy are dead.  Points as shown below:

Result Tournament Points
Total Victory 4 TP
Victory 3 TP
Draw 1 TP
Loss 0.5 TP
Total Loss 0 TP

In addition, players must also record how many enemy units they destroy during their games.  Subtract your own losses from these destroyed enemy points to get a final score (let’s call them Casualty Points). So if you kill three units and lose one, you will have a CP score of two, and your opponent will have a score of minus two.  Final scores are added together in a running total and are used as a tiebreaker to pair players that are on the same level of Tournament points. Small units thus offer flexibility but may be the decider if all else equal.

From the second round, players will be paired using a Swiss system (i.e. matching players on the same amount of TPs, in descending order).

In case of more than two players on the same/close number of TPs, players will be matched in descending order of different club/axis vs allies/Casualty Points difference/alphabetic order/my whim.

When two players that have already met in a previous turn are matched to play each other again, they will be added to the next pair to resolve pairs.  This will not apply to the top table on the last game.

7. WINNING THE TOURNAMENT

The winner is determined at the end of the last round, according to the following criteria:

  • The player with the most TP will be the winner.
  • In case of same TP at the top, the winner will be the player with the highest Casualty Points total.
  • In case of same Casualty Points total, if the players have played each other during the course of the tournament, the winner will be the winner of such match.
  • If the players never met in the tournament, the tournament ends with a joint victory and the players share the first prize.
