There's a moment in every kirtan when the room stops being a collection of strangers and becomes one voice. Through song and mythic storytelling, Jason takes us on this journey. He doesn't lead chants so much as he tends them, kneeling at the old fires to coax them back to flame. He reaches into each mantra and draws up the long-ago story sleeping at its root — the prehistoric ache, the god's wandering, the longing that first pressed these syllables into human mouths. As he tells it, something loosens. Every mantra, he says, is a strand of beads on a mala, and the string is time; each time the song is sung, another bead is added, your voice joining everyone who has ever sung it, back to its first ancient telling. Come for an evening of devotional call-and-response woven through with story.
