Ethel and Norman Thayer return to their summer home on Golden Pond for the 48th year, welcoming their daughter, her fiancé and his teenage son. When the younger couple leaves for Europe, the boy becomes the "grandchild" the older couple has longed for. As summer comes to a close, Norman and Ethel realize their time together is also fading. But hopefully, another summer still awaits them on Golden Pond.
