In Henry IV Part One, we meet Prince Hal, England's reluctant heir apparent. Instead of helping his father, King Henry IV, manage his challenges at court, he spends his days drinking with the unscrupulous John Falstaff.

Meanwhile, cracks have begun to form in Henry's fledgling reign. After having helped him usurp Richard II, Henry's former allies now grow dissatisfied. With Hotspur and his uncle Worcester eyeing rebellion, we see friends become enemies, ordinary people become soldiers, and violence once more grip a weary nation.

As Henry defends his crown and Hotspur prepares for civil war, Hal must make a choice: become the warrior his father wants, or hold onto his carefree life with Falstaff.
