HAYDN'S THE SEASONS
Richard Mason – Conductor
25 Year Anniversary Concert with Richard Mason
To celebrate 25 years with our conductor Richard Mason, Sutton Coldfield Choral Society invites you to join them in a performance of one of Joseph Haydn’s greatest masterpieces; The Seasons, accompanied by a 30 piece orchestra and a trio of accomplished soloists including the superb English baritone Andrew Greenan.
Every bit the equal to Haydn’s The Creation, The Seasons is a delightful work. Similar to an early nineteenth-century version of The Archers as it used to be, The Seasons tells the story of a year in the life of a small rural community in Austria, including vivid musical depictions of jolly peasants going about their country activities from sowing seed and ploughing to hunting and drinking. Anyone only familiar with Haydn’s sacred oratorios may well be surprised at this light-hearted and entertaining work. Come and hear this seldom performed masterpiece and you will wonder why it’s not better known.
