Sutton Coldfield Musical Youth Theatre (SCMYT) returns to The Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Hall with the iconic Les Misérables School Edition for February 2024.
This epic tale of broken dreams amid a troubled 19th century France is a much-loved firm favourite
of theatre audiences the world over.
Based on the classic Victor Hugo novel of the same name, the story centres on Jean Valjean, a French peasant, and his quest for redemption after being released from years of unjust imprisonment for stealing a loaf of bread for his sister’s starving child.
Once released, he finds a life of mistrust and mistreatment awaits. Breaking his parole in the hope of finding a better life, he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert who refuses to believe Valjean can be redeemed.
During the student uprising of 1832 in Paris, Javert must then confront his ideals when Valjean spares his life and saves that of a student, who has captured the heart of Valjean’s adopted daughter.
Featuring the stirring and brilliant music and lyrics of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, audiences can expect all the drama of the French revolt alongside such well-loved songs as ‘I Dreamed a Dream’, ‘One Day More’, ‘On My Own’
and much, much, more in this landmark show.
