Award-winning news journalist G J Phelps has always been fascinated by ‘real’ ghost stories. So much so that, during his 30-year newspaper career – including editing the Royal Sutton Coldfield Observer – he has collected dozens of unexplainable reports that came into newsrooms across the UK.  

 

Now, he has used these to inspire his chilling supernatural thriller 13 Doors.  

 

In this talk, the author will explain the dark logic behind the book, reveal how he used journalistic techniques to make the novel extra creepy – and share some of the ‘true’ spooky tales that reporters just couldn’t explain… including plenty from Sutton Coldfield.
