  • ALL Saturday evening tickets are heavily discounted and Sunday is FREE!

An exciting two-day event, Concert in the Park, featuring world-class music and family fun will be putting arts and culture centre-stage in Royal Sutton Coldfield this July. On Saturday 1 July the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) will perform a repertoire of popular classics and epic film scores in the heart of Sutton Park, conducted by CBSO Associate Conductor Michael Seal.

Local residents can snap up the tickets first from 10 – 24 April, from Sutton Town Hall before tickets go on general release.

Gates open from 4pm and the performances begin at 5pm with 60s tribute singer Tony Skeggs, with numbers by the Beatles amongst others. The WestEnders will perform an exciting programme of favourites from the magical shows of the West End such as Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera.

Birmingham’s very own 75 strong world-renowned CBSO will take to the stage from 7pm with a repertoire that will take the audience through popular scores from Harry Potter, Star Wars and the Nutcracker, through popular opera arias and a number of patriotic favourites. This promises to be a magical performance against the beautiful backdrop of Sutton Park.

Organised and heavily subsidised by Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council, a free Beasts and Bugs family fun day on Sunday 2 July,  featuring special family performances by a 10 piece mini-orchestra made up of CBSO musicians, alongside craft activities, live music from Sutton Coldfield Choirs and Sutton’s very own Scout Gang Show. Sutton Park Rangers will lead site tours and activities and visitors should be on the lookout for some fantastical street theatre including The Flying Fox Bats by Circo Rum Ba Ba Stilts and Praying Mantas by Artemis.

A range of outstanding local food vendors such as Baked in Brick will be providing the on-site catering alongside a range of licensed bars, including a processco pop up stand and Sutton’s own fire engine bar, The Tipple Truck. Concert in the Park attendees also have the option of Gourmet Hampers available for pre-order from The Deli in Boldmere.

Councillor Simon Ward, Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council said: “This concert promises to be a fantastic weekend for the people of Royal Sutton Coldfield as well as those from further afield. It is great that we can release tickets early to our local residents to ensure they don’t miss out on an opportunity to see the world-class CBSO right on their doorstep at the heart of their park.

“I am delighted to see so many local groups and businesses already supporting the weekend and showcasing the rich and vibrant talent we have in our Royal Town. There are still opportunities for local musicians, choirs and local businesses to get in touch and become part of the programme themselves – I would urge them to do so. We look forward to enjoying a great weekend of culture at the heart of our community in Sutton Park.”

Stephen Maddock OBE, Chief Executive CBSO said: “We are delighted to be working with Royal Sutton Town Council to bring our Orchestra to people of Sutton Coldfield and to play in the beautiful and historic setting of Sutton Park. Our Associate Conductor Michael Seal will lead the Orchestra. Recognised as one of today’s finest interpreters of British music and having worked with many of the UK’s top orchestras, Michael will bring the park alive with wonderful music including Rossini, Verdi, Elgar, John Wiliams and Puccini.”

Tickets cost just £10 (£5 concessions) for Sat 1st July. Entrance to the Family Fun Day on Sunday, 2nd July is FREE, however to guarantee entry we recommend you book tickets in advance.
