Grade 11 IBDP Theatre students have been working on their page to stage task covering all aspects of putting on a production. They are presenting this work in the last week of term in the Black Box on Wednesday 27th March at 5pm and 7pm. The work undertaken challenges the students to recontextualise and interpret a classic Greek myth leading into a fully realised show designed, directed and performed by the Grade 11 students.

The Love of the Nightingale by playwright Timberlake Wertenbaker, is an adaptation of the ancient Greek myth of Philomela. The production follows the violent manipulation of Philomele by her brother-in-law, Tereus, and her subsequent silencing. Through the use of male and female choruses, the play tells the story of a woman who refuses to be silenced, despite the powerful patriarchal society. Exploring status and power dynamics, the play highlights the importance of questioning injustices in society.

Tickets are FREE and will be available from Monday, March 11th onwards.

This show is suitable for grades 10-12 only.
