New year, new problems
Still got an itching problem? Good. Following our successful debut in our new Birmingham home, The Victoria, we're opening up The Clinic for another round of appointments.
Expect laughter, shots and chaos as Gloria Hole assembles another crack team of comedians to solve your problems. In the past we've had relationship woes, erstwhile shows and one poor man who just couldn't get his party popper off.
Joining Gloria this month are:
Allyson June Smith:
After her initial forays into standup garnered her some success, Allyson hit the comedy club circuit, which in turn propelled her to headlining gigs at festivals. She shone in multiple high-profile slots at the Winnipeg, Halifax and Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival. And that was just the start. In the years that followed she received multiple nominations for Best Female Stand-up at the Canadian Comedy Awards, taped her own Comedy Now special and did stints on MuchMusic’s Video on Trial and CBC’s The Debaters.
Now settled in the city of Manchester, UK, it’s time for Europe to reap the rewards of Allyson June Smith’s ever-inventive comedic ascent.
A self-confessed “over-sharer”, any Allyson June Smith show inevitably serves up a potent observational cocktail of wit, bite and shame. Which means you’ll typically find her after the show, with a line of eager fans queued up to talk with her, to confess to her or to share some comically grisly detail from their own lives. Courageously self-deprecating, Allyson’s comedic gift is making every room, whatever the size, feel like an intimate group therapy session. That intimacy, that uncommon bond between audience and performer is at the heart of Allyson’s magic as a comedian. Like the most relatable actresses working today or your very best friend, she finds a way to connect with everyone in a room, be they from southeast Asia, the U.K. or North America.
“Simply one of the funniest comedians I’ve ever worked with,” -Jason Manford
This Canadian comic might have disappointed her parents when she turned her back on teaching to become a stand-up comic – but sorry Dad, it was the comedy world’s turn to gain.
Anna Spark:
Coming along will be comedy wunderkind Anna Spark! Since landing on our shores earlier this year Anna has blazed a trail through the comedy circuit with her frank, dark and bloody hilarious observations. Unearthing the hilarity in everything I can honestly say that she's one of my favourite acts on the circuit at the moment and probably wrote one of my favourite jokes of the year.
I'm not the only one to think this, last month Anna won the 2018 Beat The Frog World Series beating over 50 other up an comic comedians.
Shell Byron:
"Scarily Talented" - Paul Smith
Hot Water Comedy New Comedian of the Year 2016 - Runner-up
Liverpool Echo Stand-up Comedian of the Year 2016 - Finalist
Shell Byron has a unique and often absurd perspective on the everyday and the mundane. She is trying to trick you into agreeing with her messed up beliefs, by making you laugh.
A regular guest at The Clinic Shell's frankness and direct approach will have you in stitches. Just don't expect too much sympathy.
Plus one more guest to be revealed, trust me, they're bloody brilliant.
So come down and join us January 10. Tickets remain at £6, doors at 19:30, show at 20:00 and post show beers at 22:00.
