Magic crashes the political elite in a hilarious, modern musical comedy!

Franklin Light Opera is thrilled to present a high-energy, modern reimagining of Gilbert & Sullivan’s brilliant satire, Iolanthe March 20-22 at the Williamson County Performing Arts Center.

This production sets the classic operetta across a single day in a contemporary city park, trading Victorian elegance for a world where modern charm and self-aware whimsy clash with political ego. The Fairies inhabit a magical, hand-crafted corner of the park, while the Peers carry the unshakable confidence of the powerful.

At its heart, Iolanthe satirizes people who take themselves a bit too seriously. The plot follows a half-mortal shepherd whose impossible love exposes a long-kept secret, forcing the Queen of the Fairies to intervene directly in British Parliament. Sullivan’s iconic melodies are retained but feature a vibrant, 21st-century orchestration.

Gilbert & Sullivan’s biting and comedic satire of status and self-importance has never felt more relevant. Don't miss this witty, dazzling, and deeply human look at privilege, love, and the joy of taking ourselves a little too seriously. It is truly a production that will please the whole family!
