ABOUT US

Preserving the Legacy. Inspiring the Future.

Welcome to the W.E.R.D. National Black Radio Hall of Fame Museum, a place where the voices that transformed American broadcasting are honored, celebrated, and preserved for generations to come.

Located inside the Historic Odd Fellows Building on Atlanta's legendary Auburn Avenue, our museum stands in one of the most historically significant corridors of Black enterprise, leadership, and culture. This is the home of WERD—the first Black-owned radio station in the United States—a groundbreaking institution that forever changed the landscape of broadcasting by creating opportunities for Black voices to be heard, respected, and celebrated.

The National Black Radio Hall of Fame was founded to recognize and preserve the extraordinary contributions of the pioneers of Black radio, television, and broadcasting. Through our museum, educational initiatives, advocacy, community engagement, and annual awards, we celebrate the innovators, journalists, entertainers, executives, producers, and visionaries whose work shaped the media industry and influenced American culture.

Our museum offers visitors an immersive experience through rare artifacts, photographs, memorabilia, historical exhibits, and compelling stories that highlight the remarkable journey of Black broadcasting—from its earliest trailblazers to today's industry leaders.

Whether you're a student discovering this history for the first time, a media professional reflecting on those who paved the way, or a visitor simply seeking a meaningful cultural experience, you'll find inspiration within these walls.

This is more than a museum. It is a living tribute to courage, creativity, perseverance, and excellence. It is where history continues to speak.

Why We Exist

History is only as strong as our commitment to preserve it.

For decades, the achievements of countless Black broadcasters, journalists, producers, executives, and media pioneers have been overlooked or underrepresented in traditional historical narratives. Their voices informed communities, challenged injustice, inspired generations, and transformed American media.

Our mission is to ensure those stories are never forgotten.

We exist to educate, preserve, advocate, and inspire. Through museum tours, educational programming, youth engagement, community partnerships, historical preservation, and national recognition, we are committed to keeping this rich legacy alive while empowering future generations to build upon it.

We believe that when people understand the past, they are better equipped to shape the future.

Every exhibit tells a story. Every story honors a legacy. Every visitor becomes part of preserving history.
