Sam Bush has spent more than five decades redefining bluegrass, blending its traditional roots with rock, jazz, reggae, and improvisation to help create the progressive "newgrass" movement. Raised on a Kentucky cattle farm, Bush fell in love with the mandolin after seeing Ricky Skaggs perform with Flatt & Scruggs, becoming a champion fiddler before turning down an offer to join Roy Acuff's band in pursuit of a broader musical vision. In 1971, he co-founded New Grass Revival, a groundbreaking group that challenged bluegrass conventions and became one of the genre's most influential bands.

After 18 years with New Grass Revival, Bush launched a solo career while continuing to collaborate with artists including Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, and Béla Fleck. A four-time IBMA Mandolin Player of the Year and recipient of the Americana Music Association's Lifetime Achievement Award for Instrumentalist, Bush has inspired generations of musicians and remains a beloved fixture on the festival circuit. Revered as the "King of Telluride," he continues to embody the adventurous spirit that has made him one of bluegrass music's most enduring innovators.
