About South Florida Black Pride
More than a weekend. More than a celebration. A movement rooted in community.
South Florida Black Pride is the annual Pride experience of Afro Pride Federation, Inc., a Black-led South Florida organization founded in 2020 to serve Black and Afrocentric LGBTQ+ communities, including Afro-Latino, Afro-Caribbean, and people across the African Diaspora, as well as those who love and support them.
Through South Florida Black Pride, we create space to celebrate who we are while connecting our community to the people, resources, culture, conversations, and opportunities that help us thrive.
But Pride weekend is only one part of the work.
We Don’t Just Celebrate Community. We Serve It.
Afro Pride works year-round to advance the mental, social, physical, and economic wellness of Black and Afrocentric LGBTQ+ communities throughout South Florida.
Our work includes mental health and psychiatric services, HIV prevention and education, HIV testing, case management, PrEP support, community engagement, advocacy, cultural arts programming, safe and affirming spaces, and connections to trusted community resources.
We believe our community deserves more than visibility. We deserve access. We deserve care. We deserve joy. We deserve spaces created with us, for us, and by people who understand the communities we serve.
Community Rooted. Partnership Powered.
Afro Pride has built a network of more than 50 local and international organizations and community partners through Pride events, resource fairs, fundraising campaigns, health initiatives, cultural programming, and community-driven projects.
Our work connects South Florida to a broader movement through relationships including the Center for Black Equity, while maintaining a strong focus on the needs, experiences, and voices of Black LGBTQ+ people here at home.
Recent organizational reporting documents approximately 1,300 people reached through the annual Pride celebration, along with direct engagement of Black men through ongoing community programming and expanded access to mental health, HIV prevention, testing, treatment navigation, and other support services.
Pride With Purpose
South Florida Black Pride brings celebration and purpose together.
Yes, we dance. We gather. We show up boldly and unapologetically.
We also create spaces for film, art, advocacy, health education, community dialogue, cultural expression, wellness, and connection.
Programs such as Shades of Black Film Showcase center Black LGBTQ+ storytelling through independent film, visual art, and community conversation. Other Afro Pride initiatives have connected community members with health resources, mental wellness services, cultural experiences, fundraising efforts, artists, advocates, and organizations working to strengthen Black LGBTQ+ life in South Florida.
Because celebration and community care are not separate from one another.
They are both part of Pride.
Built Through Resilience
Afro Pride has continued to grow through changing political, social, and funding landscapes while maintaining its community partnerships and expanding services.
Today, the organization operates with a core staff, volunteers, community partners, healthcare relationships, and an expanding network of supporters committed to culturally responsive care and community-centered programming.
That resilience matters because the needs of Black LGBTQ+ communities do not disappear when a grant ends, an event closes, or Pride weekend is over.
Neither does our commitment.
South Florida Black Pride: Heat Wave 2026
This year, South Florida Black Pride returns under the theme HEAT WAVE, bringing together Black LGBTQ+ people, organizers, creatives, influencers, partners, and allies for a multi-day experience across South Florida.
Heat Wave represents the energy, visibility, culture, and collective power created when our communities come together.
The weekend includes nightlife, film, art, community conversation, cultural experiences, and opportunities to connect across Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Miami, and surrounding communities.
Unity. Culture. Community.
Be Part of the Movement
South Florida Black Pride is built by the community.
Whether you attend an event, volunteer, become a sponsor, share our work, collaborate as a community partner, support a fundraiser, connect someone to services, or simply bring another person into the room, you are part of what makes this possible.
We invite individuals, organizations, businesses, artists, health professionals, advocates, and allies who believe in the health, visibility, dignity, creativity, and future of Black LGBTQ+ communities to stand with us.
Come celebrate with us. Connect with us. Build with us.
Because South Florida Black Pride is more than an event.
It is a community in motion.
