Always enjoy Chester Street’s productions. Very welcoming as usual. Very well cast. The lead, Jordan Andrews, outstanding! Massive role and clearly researched his character. Chester Street always performs very good plays. Some better than others, but always a high standard.

Enjoyed it very much! Welcomed at the front desk, ushered to our seats, plenty of room to move about without being squashed, loved the supper at the interval, and really liked both plays. I have subscriptions to 2 other theatres and like Chester Street best for atmosphere, value for money and quality of the offerings. Looking forward to whatever plays Chester Street puts on. Thoughtful interesting plays without being over the top.

Interweaving the professional and personal life of a quiet achiever who's work contributed to furthering the understanding distances in the universe, this is a story about a feisty female scientist in the days when women were considered secondary to the " real" scientists. The actors bring the characters to life, with their crisp dialogue and expressive body language. The evocative music choices and the amazing cosmic background further enhance the experience.

How did you like the event?

Would have to say that in 15 years as a subscriber this is one of the best individual performances my group of five have seen. Exceptional talent. The seamless transition from one scene to another by the entire cast was amazing. What can the Chester Street Theatre not achieve? The trickery of the projections of images onto the back wall was clever indeed!

Excellent work. Brilliant concepts with the human furniture. The acting by the key character was so good I almost questioned whether he was acting. How did you like the event?

What an interesting play...the script was challenging, the lead actor was sensational, weaving a bevy of savant characteristics into a memorable performance, the staging was unusual but it worked, all up a thought-provoking and entertaining play.

How did you like the event?

Nice play! Excellent actors who were 10/10! The set build was brilliant, made great use of the limited space. Got every single inch out of it. I only think perhaps the play could have been trimmed down, as it started 8pm and finished approx 10.45pm, and for whatever reason (terrible weather?) I really needed to sleep by sometime in the second half. The first half was really 100% engaging though. Best of luck to all the actors in every future play.

How did you like the event?

Thought it was supposed to be a comedy -not sure as there was lots of anger and arguing and tension in the first half of the play between the two brothers Stanley and Eugene. The second half picked up and the audience now was aware of the breaking down of the marriage of the mother and father. All the actors were superb, but we thought the play itself was a bit dated. The sets were great, three cheers to the stage designers.

How did you like the event?

I booked 6 tickets. My friends asked - what is it about - my answer : I don’t know, but with Carla Moore directing and Niel Simons as the author, it is bound to be excellent. And excellent it was. The story is an exploration of differing ideas, philosophies and aspirations within a multigenerational family. The enthusiasm of youth, the frustrations of the aged and the realities of those in between were beautifully portrayed. It's a long play - so book dinner accordingly.

How did you like the event?

I found the play too slow and perhaps too long. The lady near me had fallen asleep 15 minutes into the play. My friends left early, sadly. Catherine Potter's performance was exquisite and flawless, esp in the post intermission leg. A Class; 5 stars. I would have edited the protracted dialogues between Eugene

A wordy play with little physical action following a heavy lunch inclined to drowsiness but the second act seemed more lively.  Thank you for choosing a play of such challenging content, and for carrying it off so well. Carla's direction was exemplary, as always, and the acting was appropriately understated, leaving the audience nowhere to hide from the message. It was a perfect performance, made even more poignant by the struggle America now faces to distinguish 'fact from fiction' as Donald Trumps reclaims the Whitehouse.

Terrific script, innovative, poignant, funny and very clever, well done Carla! The actors did the writing justice, which suggests the Director did too. How did you like the event?

I adored the play. It was an honour to meet the playwright after the show. She is apparently there for the final two performances and is worth attending the play for that alone. The play is beautifully written and a joy to watch. The three actors fill the story with accessible charm and find much of the nuance the brilliant playwright has created. If you are doing something interesting tonight or tomorrow cancel it. Do yourself a favour and get to the show.

How did you like the event?

A nostalgic play for the locals. Probably wouldn't travel. Well written but almost playing too much to the locals. Set worked well - car, stretcher. Use of projection and more artistic lighting could have enhanced the production. Scene changes could have been slicker. Acting competent. Guitar unnecessary and distracting. Final scene didn't quite work for me. The "revelation" was obvious from early in the play. Still an enjoyable night from a respected company.

My 3 friends and I are regular subscribers and we all thoroughly enjoyed this play last night. The musical soundtrack and the surprising inclusion of live songs evoked our memories of the 70’s including references to drinks (Dry & Dry and wines) and events around that time that we’d long parked in our own past experiences. It was lovely to chat with director Tracey after the show and as usual the best writing comes from real lived experiences even if transposed into fiction

How did you like the event?

Clue - Directed by Isaac Owen is a fast paced, madcap hilarious play. Love the stage movement, the actors do a wonderful job. The cast are all wonderful but I particularly loved the varied characters played by Cassie, Fabiola’s Yvette and Tracey’s Colonel Mustard. She/he cracks me up lol. I loved the costumes. Amazing work Isaac! What a vision for the play.

How did you like the event?

Inspired staging, it was genius and, despite its complexity, the actors managed it beautifully. The costumes and dummies were brilliant. The script was very clever, but some of that cleverness was subsumed in the over-the-top delivery. Nevertheless, we made our way home chuckling.

Brilliant timing and choreography from the cast, excellent costuming. Lines were sometimes difficult to hear/understand from row E (apart from Wadsworth). Set was very clever but used too much at times. Perhaps the scene changes could have been reduced. Good lighting. The interminable movement/chase/choreography in the 2nd act The play seemed 'cartoon-like, pointless and repetitive. I was not involved in solving the murder/s and kept falling asleep in the first act.

How did you like the event?

We thoroughly enjoyed this whimsical, rollicking and tongue in cheek tribute to the game "Cluedo". There were many laugh out loud moments. Acting is difficult; comedy is more difficult, but the whole cast carried the comedy off superbly. The odd moment of farce - such as when the action is "rewound" - was also carried off with aplomb. For an enjoyable, light and hilarious theatre experience, this production is highly recommended.

4.3 / 5.0 based on 82 reviews

How did you like the event?

How did you like the event?

The story was very relevant and reminded us of the challenges we faced when our children were the same age as Zoe and Kieran. Set was good as usual. Casting and performance were good. Could have done with a little less of Dorothy. Her talks to the audience I found were sometimes distracting. Loved her various outfits. A few times the dialogue was hard to hear (and we were on the front row).Prefer not to hear the 'fuck' word in a play. Enjoyed the play, but not a favourite.

Aug 14, 2023
by:FAY Sinnott

How did you like the event?

This was the first Chester Street production which we found disappointing. The actors were excellent - no discredit to them at all. The choice of the play was the problem. It was eminently predictable, with stereotypical characters. I was hoping that the second act might offer something more, but was disappointed. There seemed to be no resolution, and I was left wondering what the point of the play was. The director's notes suggested something deeper than was delivered.

Lovely friendly people putting on a great show for a good price and in the process offering nice refreshments. The Peach Season was excellent. I loved the performance. The reason for 3 stars is that we were in row F and the Heater / Aircon was so noisy that it made it difficult & at times impossible to hear the words being spoken on stage, especially Dorothy's which were well done in a foreign accent.  I had never seen "Blythe Spirit" before and knew nothing more than it was a Noel Coward play. It was a very enjoyable surprise. The acting was excellent, stagecraft also, and the ending - to one uninitiated - a surprise. The team's interval hospitality is always an added bonus to Chester Street productions. My only other comment would be that the lady who played the medium carried off her accent so well that I (perhaps only I) found her sometimes difficult to underst

My 4 friends and I all enjoyed seeing this play. 3 of us also saw it last year, presented by the STC with Courtney Act, but this version was just as entertaining and was well-cast. I'd forgotten the play was long and I must remember to bring a cushion to sit on next time. The special effects worked well and the ending, especially when the ghosts wreck the room (reminded me of The Play that Goes Wrong and Noises Off)

I loved Glorious! A very uplifting play. Amazing Kate Mannix played the lead and I couldn’t imagine it without her, she’s very expressive and her singing was the standout. Christine Rule as her kooky delusional friend was amazing too!

I enjoyed the play very much. Scenery and costumes were great. Acting was excellent. Audience participation re. applauding was fun. My husband, however, disliked the play?! He was not aware of the story of Florence, whereas I had seen the film, perhaps that made the difference.

How did you like the event?

"Glorious" is an excellent production in every respect. Focusing on the latter life of Florence Foster Jenkins, who came to attention through the eponymous movie, the play delicately balances the superficial absurdity of her self-perception, aspirations and endeavours, with a more profound theme which gradually emerges and is poignantly articulated by play's end. It is very funny, peopled by quirky characters, and blessed by impressive performances, especially by the lead.

How did you like the event?

A spectacular re-creation of the life of Florence Foster Jenkins (1868-1944). Enter the world of America’s socialites and enjoy the wry humour of Florence’s extraordinary fan following to acclaimed success, despite her inability to sing! The cast, director and back of house were superb in bringing this comedy to the Theatre on Chester.

Another great night out. Funny and poignant: natural and moving performances from two new young team members in particular. We thought all characters were so well cast and played. How did you like the event?

better than the movie - great acting carrying a changing gamut of interactive relationships - especially good nuanced flashbacks to younger times, well-designed scenery with clear entry/exit and activity areas (the use of the lines of the wooden clapboard walls created a visual depth to the stage), lighting and sound were good,, though I did find the frog croaks to be Australian rather than American. All well done.Thanks.

How did you like the event?

I really enjoyed this play. However, I took my 14 year old granddaughter with me and she remarked on the amount of swearing in the show. It interfered with the impact of the play for us. This is why l only gave it 3 stars. Acting was great, the subject matter challenging and we'll unpacked. No my mind the swearing was unnecessary. The impact could have been achieved without it.

This was by far and away the best play I've seen in the last few years. (I really enjoyed "In Duty Bound" as well - it really got me thinking about all sorts of issues.)
