Theatre on Chester Reviews

Comfortable theatre with a good interval.

Really enjoyed the the play, it was a bit different in a good way. As usual the acting was great

5 stars excellent performances from all 3 actors. Well worth a visit. J

 Depressing

Also we found the theatre very stuffy and uncomfortably warm. I started falling asleep !

A wonderful cast excelled in this Australian classic. Loved it!!

 Excellent production.

Friendly theatre with great actors and accessible prices.

Lovely venue, cosy atmosphere and the stage is set higher than audience seats ensuring a better view for all.

A beautiful treasure creating a place of joy for locals and beyond Thank you to everyone and the volunteers for the continuing operation of this theatre Love the refreshments!

Seating not great as all on the flat resulting in restricted view.

 A season of wonderful plays

 fabulous

 Usual friendly atmosphere

Loved it! Can't wait to find out what plays have been lined up for 2027. Will book again for next year. Thank you!

The acting was great as usual from all cast members. Whilst appreciating the concept of the significance of the dining room table in everyday life, switching backwards and forwards between generations made it all a bit confusing at times.

Acting was superb as always. Venue comfortably and homely Great entertaining event

We came completely unprepared as a last minute booking and had no idea what to expect … we became completely absorbed into the funny, sad and conflicted world of the American wasps in a manner that was entertaining and thought provoking .. some of the best theatre we have seen.

Completely different with so many individual stories presented on stage. The timing and changes of personas was very professional. We all enjoyed it and congratulate everyone involved..

 Well acted. Clever presentation.

A thoughtful look at the values and hidden truths that shape ordinary lives, brought to life by an enthusiastic and capable cast. It’s an enjoyable community production, though improving the comfort of the seating would make the experience even better.

It was a great production. The acting was terrific and very professional.

Another great performance. Early start is good for this time of year.

We left at half time as I was bored and theatre was too warm and stuffy. So much so that I started falling asleep

Away is another strong and engaging production. A true Australian classic brought to life by a talented group of actors

Enjoyed the play and production. However, quite disappointed that a patron who was using a walker and her companion were sitting in the seats I had purchased for myself and my friend. I specifically booked two seats for us on the end of the row (D, 11 and 12), as my friend has mobility issues. I'm hoping this situation will not be repeated for our next two theatre attendances this season.Thank you for your attention to this.

Loved this production-all the cast were excellent and it was professionally directed. The play is thought provoking and multi layered in meaning with moments of pathos, reflection and reconciliation. Very enjoyable.

I studied this play over 30 years ago for the HSC but did not expect to be repeatedly moved to tears last night watching it. Life experience and excellent acting can do that to a person. The casting was spot on for each character. Well done to all!

Totally engrossing professional performance from all the cast. Life lessons from several directions in the storyline. Felt the 2nd half was underdeveloped to some extent

I was impressed by the standard of the production. While it was not quite what I was expecting from the blurb I did enjoy the play. Thank you.

 unusual play . great performance

Would have to say that in 15 years as a subscriber this is one of the best individual performances my group of five have seen. Exceptional talent. The seamless transition from one scene to another by the entire cast was amazing. What can the Chester Street Theatre not achieve? The trickery of the projections of images onto the back wall was clever indeed!

 Play was great

A most unusual play - very enjoyable Absolutely amazing performance from Christopher which will be long remembered

Brilliant performance by Jordan. Extremely talented!

Brilliantly done. Tour de force Jordan Andrews as we saw events unfold from his perspective. Clever use of narration propelled the story

Excellent performance. A very enjoyable evening. Great hospitality as always

One of the best. Intense. humorous. Jordan fantastic.

What an interesting play...the script was challenging, the lead actor was sensational, weaving a bevy of savant characteristics into a memorable performance, the staging was unusual but it worked, all up a thought-provoking and entertaining play.

Curios Incident was outstanding - the lead actor played the part with great authenticity & was ably supported by teh entire cast. Riveting theatre

Absolutely brilliant. Simply wonderful. Cleverly staged, well cast - all the actors were terrific, but we particulatly loved the actors playing Christopher and his dad, mum and Siobhan. And of course the dog. Best show of the year! Our maths - loving teen loved it, particularly the solving of the maths problem at the end.

Thought provoking and incredibly well presented production. The theatre company as a whole are to be commended and congratulated big time.

I thoroughly enjoyed this theatrical performance and a special mention must go to the young man who played the lead role. I have neuro diversity in my family and he displayed the characteristics of autism extremely well. I wish him well as I believe he has applied to NIDA.

This was an excellent production, with fine acting and innovative set arrangements. Poignant, funny and moving, it was an absorbing trip across life through the eyes of a neurodiverse teenager. We thoroughly enjoyed it, and highly recommend this play and The Theatre on Chester.

 Great staging

 An enjoyable performance

Usual excellent casting, beleivable story and Neil Simon never dissapoints.

A bit drawn out but that was the play

Excellent in every way. Very enjoyable.

Chester St actors, producers and refreshments as usual very good but the play needed an editor to cut down the length particularly in the first act.

Very clear diction with excellent acting.

Very professional production. All actors to be commended on their performances. Very enjoyable.

Very well directed and acted! Also a big applause to the organisers for managing the houseful event with such professionalism and warmth!!

First class acting. A very high-quality production. The clever set design worked well. Stand out performances from the two sons. The George Raft scene perhaps too long but that is only a small point. Upgraded seats were welcomed.

Superb direction and execution by the cast. A gritty play about life sure to resonate with many people, but handled with care and punctuated with light hearted moments to make it very well balanced drama indeed.

The performers were brilliant and the production was fantastic.

....Excellent show....the entire cast are superb.....!!....Thank you, Chester Street....!!

What a fantastic night at the theatre! Broadway Bo1und was cleverly staged and brilliantly acted. The characters were believable. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

What an amazing portrayal of the real life of such an important lady in the scheme of things in the the sky. The entire cast performed admirably, which it seems has become the norm at Theatre on Chester Street. The back end team provided wonderful support and are also to be congratulated. Us subscribers are indeed spoilt rotten and we thank each and every one of you.

the show last night was interesting the cast were great BUT IT WAS SO COLD IN THE HALL - ITS NOT THE FIRST TIME WE HAVE BEEN FROZEN - IF WE HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THIS WE WILL NOT ATTEND ALL THE PEOPLE AROUND WERE ALL COMPLAINING

Fascinating story - not seen it played in Sydney before so most enjoyable & educational

 Really enjoyed storyline and presentation

 Beautiful

I really enjoyed this play. The content was very interesting with a little bit of humour. It was presented very well. The actors were engaging and space themed set design was really cool

 Fantastic show thoroughly enjoyed it

The play was wonderful. Excellent performance from all cast members and the direction set design was very cleverly done. Fantastic play that had me engaged from start to finish. Well done to everyone involved!

Very interesting play Great cast Thoroughly enjoyed it

A wordy play with little physical action following a heavy lunch inclined to drowsiness but the second act seemed more lively. The characters were well represented and the acting good as is usually the case at Chesty. Singing from the sister seemed a little tentative but well worked into the scene changes. The set worked well. The back drop was excellent and the stars worked well.

Fabulous performance by the cast, most interesting storey

Really good play excellently acted and a credit to all who put it together

The production was excellent and acting was solid. The staff on front desk were extremely helpful. Midnight Sky had an interesting story to tell so the play was both enjoyable and informative

This is a must see. Excellent production

Cleverly staged...a uniformly riveting performance from the cast, with the professionalism your audience has come to expect of all Chester Street's productions (when I get used to calling it The Theatre on Chester, I'll let you know). No surprises that we think stories like that should be told. My heartfelt appreciation goes to everyone, the cast and crew, behind the scenes who tirelessly bring these plays to us year in and year out.

 Can’t remember

Another brillant play at Chester Street!

 Very enjoyable

 Stimulating, interested, great acting

Great production! Really enjoyed this play - very engrossing and seriously great acting!!

 Loved it

The play started off well. Good concept . It got bogged down in the second part going over the same fairly trivial things. I thought there would be a revelation but there was not. I was very impressed with the actors.

 Thought provoking and well cast

Interesting second act, first act convulated. Not sure if I did get the facts . Food for thought though .Always great acting, the three actors were first rate. Good on you Chester for a topical play about misinformation that abounds in our media today. See you in 2025 !

Great acting, but become a tad boring towards the end.

Excellent play. Wonderful acting. Thank you.

Thank you for choosing a play of such challenging content, and for carrying it off so well. Carla's direction was exemplary, as always, and the acting was appropriately understated, leaving the audience nowhere to hide from the message. It was a perfect performance, made even more poignant by the struggle America now faces to distinguish 'fact from fiction' as Donald Trumps reclaims the Whitehouse.

A very witty enjoyable play. Well directed, fantastic cast. Will go again to see this play. Highly recommend!

Thought provoking storyline. Brilliant actors and a first rate production .

Terrific performance from all 3 actors. Great show. Thanks everyone.

The story was just a 6/10 for me. Nice set and beautiful costumes though

Great acting, enjoyable. The standin actor was fantastic, and did a GREAT job at last minute.

 Another great evening.

 Excellent production

This was a great play with some really good acting. Loved Silvia

Really enjoyed the evening. Great acting, costumes & scene props- brought back memories!! “Judy” was amazing how she managed so magnificently in portraying the role at short notice.

Considering the change to actors, it was a good show.

Fabulous cast and well done to the lead stand in - incredible job with such a short lead time. Incredible production, funny, entertaining and a credit to the cast and crew.

 I did not attend

Sadly the story was amateurish. Drawn out, difficult to follow. The “fill in” actor was marvellous given the circumstances,

Great show, very impressive effort to adapt to the last minute absence of one of the lead actors.

Thought provoking presentation. Excellent cast. Amazing set and costumes.

very well done. a good choice of play

Another great Theatre on Chester experience. An entertaining and thought-provoking play, well acted and with a great set. Easy to book and parking at the door.

Excellent acting, set, great choice of music. Raised interesting issues. Gold stars all round.

It was ok I was unable to relate to the hum

Terrific script, innovative, poignant, funny and very clever, well done Carla! The actors did the writing justice, which suggests the Director did too. And, as always, the front of house, support, and 'behind the curtain' crews excelled...the Jimmy was a triumph. Thank you all for another entertaining evening, and in our very own backyard!

 loved it

 Brilliant!!

 Enjoyable. Kate Mannix was superb.

Enjoyed the performance, but felt the ending fell a bit flat.

After a “setting the scene “ start, the inner world of a bereaved woman unravels - as does that of her cousin. The actors truely live their parts. Brilliant! Another Carla Moore highlight.

 Fabulous play and cast

I adored the play. It was an honour to meet the playwright after the show. She is apparently there for the final two performances and is worth attending the play for that alone. The play is beautifully written and a joy to watch. The three actors fill the story with accessible charm and find much of the nuance the brilliant playwright has created. If you are doing something interesting tonight or tomorrow cancel it. Do yourself a favour and get to the show.

A nostalgic play for the locals. Probably wouldn't travel. Well written but almost playing too much to the locals. Set worked well - car, stretcher. Use of projection and more artistic lighting could have enhanced the production. Scene changes could have been slicker. Acting competent. Guitar unnecessary and distracting. Final scene didn't quite work for me. The "revelation" was obvious from early in the play. Still an enjoyable night from a respected company.

Loved the show. Very humorous comments re north shore girls etc. Seats awfully hard.

Fantastic acting and a really absorbing play. Well done!

Very funny but with a serious note. Excellent set. Amazing performance from the 3 actors.

Totally exceeded expectations! A great Australian play, incredibly well acted and produced (as are all your productions). It was very funny but also moving and though-provoking. Music fabulous as well. Thanks so much.

Thoroughly enjoyed the play. Well written and very well acted and very humorous. A delightful way to spend an evening.

Clue - Directed by Isaac Owen is a fast paced, madcap hilarious play. Love the stage movement, the actors do a wonderful job. The cast are all wonderful but I particularly loved the varied characters played by Cassie, Fabiola’s Yvette and Tracey’s Colonel Mustard. She/he cracks me up lol. I loved the costumes. Amazing work Isaac! What a vision for the play.

4 1/2 - Costumes, esp ladies, were great. Swinging wall innovative. We look forward to next year.

I loved it. It was quite different to other offerings, especially with the music and choreorgraphed parts. Great fun, very entertaining, extremely clever and so incredibly well done.

Very nice event, especially Fabiola Pellegrino acted Yvette. Very good actress and good group

 Brilliant, cleverly done, very funny

Thank you!! ‘‘Twas a brilliant, fun (& funny), creative interpretation of CLUE. Congratulations to Isaac, the cast, crew and team.

Fantastic performance from all the cast Great sets Just brilliant

 Very creative and funny

We thoroughly enjoyed this whimsical, rollicking and tongue in cheek tribute to the game "Cluedo". There were many laugh out loud moments. Acting is difficult; comedy is more difficult, but the whole cast carried the comedy off superbly. The odd moment of farce - such as when the action is "rewound" - was also carried off with aplomb. For an enjoyable, light and hilarious theatre experience, this production is highly recommended.

Excellent show.. we loved the innovative creative sides of this play. Personally I was distracted by the same actors playing different roles and by women playing men's roles but in the context of this play, it's okay.

We loved the way the play was directed! The stage setup, with the different "rooms" of the mansion & the way the performers portrayed the travelling between the different rooms was Ingenius & brilliant to watch.

Not as good as the other two shows. Acting was fine but script let them down at times

 Amazing set! Fun and clever

 Very funny
