New Moon and Emily Starr follows young Emily Starr, a spirited and imaginative orphan sent to live with her strict Aunt Elizabeth and relatives at New Moon Farm in late 1890’s on Prince Edward Island. Though stifled by her austere Aunt Elizabeth, Emily finds support in kind Aunt Laura and eccentric Cousin Jimmy. At school, Emily struggles with bullying, unsympathetic teachers, and her unrelenting desire to write poetry, but also forges powerful friendships with Fredi, Ted, and Perry. As Emily’s writing talent blooms, she challenges societal norms and defies expectations, determined to become a writer despite opposition. Through personal growth, defiant resilience, and chosen family, Emily discovers her place in the world while honoring her late father’s memory.
Sylvia Ashby's "New Moon and Emily Starr" is an adaptation of the novel "Emily of New Moon", written by L.M. Montgomery.
